Meet Kyle Ayers, one of our Crawfish Boil 2022 Recipients

Meet Kyle Ayers

Kyle Ayers was diagnosed with Guillain-Barre syndrome (GBS) on August 2, 2020 while working as an ER Tech at Los Robles Hospital. He spent two months in the ICU, fighting for his life while receiving exceptional care from his colleagues. His illness left him paralyzed from the neck down, on a ventilator and a feeding tube.

From ICU, he was transferred to a respiratory hospital followed by a skilled nursing facility where he spent the next 8 months. He had to work with numerous specialists to relearn how to breathe, speak, and eat.

After 14 months of physical therapy, including aquatic therapy and occupational therapy, Kyle has regained a significant amount of movement and independence. His progress has been dramatic and continues to surprise his team of therapists and physicians.

Kyle is now able to use his arms and hands, he is able to stand with assistance, and is relearning how to walk. He uses his motorized wheelchair to get around town and his wheelchair accessible van provides transportation to his various appointments.

The love and support from family and friends keeps Kyle motivated and he is determined to make a full recovery. He is working hard and looking forward to getting back to fishing and traveling and to rejoining his coworkers at Los Robles Hospital.

The Jewel Levine Foundation looks forward to having Kyle be named as one of our 2022 Crawfish Boil Recipients.
